I got this mail from a senior colleague. I thought I should share it with you
"Hi Ebube, I hope that this finds you well. I would like to welcome you if this is your first weekly update, please feel free to contact me if there are any subjects you would like me to cover.
So last week I sent you a free tool kit to help you to overcome food cravings and other issues when trying to lose weight.
This week I'm going to talk about hunger.
"Eat when you're hungry, stop when you are full."
It sounds so simple, yet countless people struggle with putting this principle into practice. Why is over-eating such a battle? One of the main reasons is because we are no longer in tune with our bodies. We've lost sensitivity to true physical hunger; we get confused with a multitude of other needs and when we do eat, we struggle to know when its time to stop!
Did you know that hunger is your body's strongest stimuli - its the body's motivation to get the nutrients it needs.
So how do you really know that you are hungry? This may seem like a silly question at first glance, but the truth of the matter is that so may people have been disconnected from their hunger for so long that this becomes a very important question.
Biological hunger involve a complex interaction between the digestive system, endoctrine system and the brain.
Then there's the glucose theory which states that we feel hungry when our blood sugar levels are low. Believe it or not there are other theories but the general consensus is that the following are signs of physical hunger.
. Empty stomach . Stomach growling . Headache . Light headed feeling . Shakiness/weakness
A growling stomach is when the stomach makes grumbling gurgling noises. This happens when it's hungry and when it's digesting food
To digest food it releases digestive fluids and the stomach muscles contracts which causes the growling grumbling noises.
Remember though this happens when your stomach is digesting so don't just rely on the noices your stomach makes!.
If everyone ate only when they were physically hungry, this would be a pretty easy topic to master. However there are other reasons we eat.
Next week there will be more on this, but until then next time you feel hungry ask yourself this question ... "am I really hungry?"
Until then have a great weekend and catch up next Friday.
Elaine"
I hope it will be useful to you too.
